Formal Requirements for Submitting Manuscripts to the Ibero-American Journal of Therapeutic Jurisprudence

Scope of the Journal

The Ibero-American Journal of Therapeutic Jurisprudence is a biannual publication that publishes original research articles addressing, from a legal or interdisciplinary perspective, relationships between doctrine and theory, experiences, applications, and basic and applied research related to Therapeutic Jurisprudence.

Editorial Management

The editors are responsible for determining the journal’s editorial policy and ensuring compliance with its objectives.

The Editorial Board reserves the following rights: (a) not to submit for peer review any manuscripts that do not comply with the submission and style guidelines set out below; (b) to publish articles in the issue of the journal it considers most appropriate; and (c) to modify the format of submissions and revise their style, if deemed necessary to ensure compliance with the established guidelines.

Nature of Articles

The Ibero-American Journal of Therapeutic Jurisprudence publishes exclusively original, unpublished works. Previously published manuscripts will not be accepted. Articles that are under review by another journal at the time of submission will not be considered for evaluation. As an exception, and only upon the recommendation of the Advisory Board, translations of works deemed to be of particular interest to the field of Therapeutic Jurisprudence may be published. In all cases, prior permission must be obtained from the journal or publishing house in which the work was originally published.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts received that fall within the scope of the journal and comply with the formal submission requirements will be sent to two reviewers with expertise in the relevant field. To ensure the impartiality of the review process, the identities of the authors will not be disclosed to the reviewers, nor will the identities of the reviewers be disclosed to the authors.

Using a specific evaluation rubric, the reviewers will determine whether the manuscript is suitable for publication and whether revisions are required prior to publication. In cases where the reviewers’ recommendations differ, the manuscript will be referred to a third reviewer, who will decide whether it meets the journal’s established quality standards.

The decision letter sent to the author, whether acceptance or rejection, will include the reasons for the decision. If the manuscript is accepted subject to revisions, these may be either major or minor. In the case of major revisions, once the author has made the required changes, the manuscript will be resubmitted to the reviewers for further evaluation.

Style Review

If a manuscript is accepted for publication, it will undergo a language and style review. The reviewer, who will always be a specialist in linguistics or philology, will identify any issues relating to language use that warrant revision, including inconsistencies, inaccuracies, spelling and typographical errors, and disconnected or unclear passages that may appear in the text. The reviewer may also make suggestions aimed at improving the clarity, precision, and overall coherence of the manuscript. The comments and recommendations provided by the language and style reviewer will be communicated to the author, who will be asked to make any necessary revisions where appropriate.

Submission Method

Authors wishing to publish their articles in the Ibero-American Journal of Therapeutic Jurisprudence must submit a digital copy of their manuscript, in Microsoft Word format, to the following email address: revistajusticiaterapeutica@uvigo.es.

Language

The journal’s language is Spanish. Quotations in other languages must be translated.

Author Identification

A separate page must include:

i. Title of the manuscript

ii. Author’s name

iii. Institutional affiliation (department, faculty/school, university, or equivalent institution)

iv. Email address

v. ORCID iD, where applicabl

Style Guidelines

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts must have a minimum length of six pages and comply with the following requirements:

·         Page size: A4

·         Margins: 2.5 cm top/bottom; 3 cm left/right

·         Font: Verdana 10 pt

·         Line spacing: Single

·         Footnotes: 8 pt

Title, Abstract, and Keywords

The title of the manuscript shall appear at the beginning of the article in 14-point Verdana font and in bold type.

After two blank lines, a brief abstract of between 200 and 300 words shall be provided, preceded by the heading “Abstract:” in bold. The abstract should describe, at a minimum, the central topic of the study, its objectives, and its principal findings.

The abstract shall be followed by four keywords, preceded by the heading “Keywords:” in bold.

In addition, authors must provide a Spanish version of the title, abstract, and keywords. The Spanish abstract shall be preceded by the heading “Resumen:” and the keywords by “Palabras clave:”. The format shall be identical to that used for the corresponding English sections.

Organization of the Text

Each section of the manuscript (including sections such as “Introduction,” “Background,” “Methodology,” “Conclusions,” “Discussion,” etc.) must be numbered consecutively. Main sections shall be identified by Roman numerals and presented in bold type. Subsections shall be presented in italics and not in bold. Neither section headings nor subsection headings should be followed by a full stop or colon.

A blank line should be inserted between the end of the text and the heading of the following section or subsection.

The sections entitled “References” and “Appendices” shall not be numbered.

Tables, Figures, and Related Materials

Tables, charts, diagrams, graphs, figures, and similar materials must be incorporated into the main body of the manuscript, numbered consecutively, and provided with appropriate titles. All such materials must be explicitly referenced in the text of the article. The number and title of each item should be centered and presented in 8-point font.

When an article includes any of these materials, a PDF version of the manuscript must also be submitted.

Footnotes

Footnotes must appear at the bottom of the page on which they are cited and should be presented in 8-point font. Footnote callouts shall be numbered consecutively using superscript Arabic numerals, without parentheses, and placed before the punctuation mark that closes the sentence or paragraph, as illustrated in the following example:

Therapeutic Jurisprudence[1]

Exceptionally, where the manuscript contains only one footnote, or where a particular note differs in nature from the others, a symbol (for example, a superscript asterisk *) may be used instead of a numerical footnote marker.

Footnotes should contain information that clarifies or supplements the content of the text. Footnotes consisting solely of bibliographic references should be avoided.

Quotations

Quotations of approximately five lines or fewer should be incorporated into the body of the text and enclosed in double quotation marks (“ ”). Longer quotations should be presented as a separate indented paragraph, with a left indent of 1.5 cm and in 8-point font. In such cases, quotation marks should not be used.  

Use of Italics and Other Forms of Emphasis

Italics should be used to indicate terms written in languages other than that of the main text. In addition, when emphasis is required for a particular term or phrase, italics should be preferred over other forms of highlighting. Underlining should never be used. Direct quotations should not be italicized, except where words or phrases already appear in italics in the original source.

In-Text References

References must be incorporated into the body of the text using the abbreviated author–date format.

When the author’s name forms part of the sentence, only the year should appear in parentheses:

For Cobo and Zamora (2019), judicial proceedings and the actions of legal professionals should generate an experience of legality.

When the reference appears at the end of the statement, both the author’s name and the year should be included in parentheses:

Judicial proceedings and the actions of legal professionals should generate an experience of legality (Cobo & Zamora, 2019).

For direct quotations, the page number(s) must be provided after the year, separated by a comma and preceded by “p.” for a single page or “pp.” for multiple pages, as shown below:

“...includes looking through a therapeutic lens when a situation is being analysed” (Hewe, 2016, p. 375).

For works with one or two authors, all authors should always be cited. For works with three to five authors, all authors should be cited the first time the work is referenced; subsequent citations should include only the first author followed by “et al.” For works with six or more authors, only the first author should be cited, followed by “et al.”

If the author is anonymous, the reference should simply indicate “Anonymous.”

References

Only sources cited in the text should be included in the reference list. References must be arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author under a section entitled “References.” As indicated above, this section should not be numbered.
